Reimagining Relationships: How citizens collaborate to change the systems in which they live

November 24, 2014

A two-day learning and inspiration event with Hivos and the Social Innovation Exchange, bringing together the social innovation and development communities to explore how to empower citizens to change, adapt and improve the systems in which they live.

This November 26-27, SIX and Hivos are collaborating to host an event in Johannesburg. We will bring together actors from across governments, the private sector, civil society, creative industries and the arts, to reimagine traditional relationships. In particular, we will learn how new kinds of collaborations between citizens and collectives of actors can come together to improve the services and practices that govern people’s lives. We will look beyond the fad of technological solutions, and examine the issue of citizen empowerment at a more systematic level.

Through convening a global group of practitioners to share both best practices as well as brilliant failures, we will show that it is possible to do something different and enable innovation in communities and cities across Africa, and around the world.

We will explore how to rebalance the power relationships in society through the following questions:

– What can we learn from what is happening already in different parts of the world?

– How can we build the capacity of citizens to think differently, create new solutions, and adopt and adapt solutions from other parts of the world to fit their own context?

– How can we shape the right conditions to support innovations to thrive?

The conference costs €100. If the cost of the conference is too prohibitive, please get in touch as we have bursaries available to ensure that the event is accessible for all.
